Playtest UK @ Dragonmeet 2015

Saturday 5th December 2015

Playtest UK will be returning to Dragonmeet for the 6th year to run the Playtest Zone. Check out the www.dragonmeet.co.uk website for more details.

Following last year's sell-out success, Dragonmeet will be held again at the ILEC Convention Centre and Ibis Hotel, near Earl's Court and West Brompton station. We will be playtesting all day on Saturday.

This will be a public playtesting event for card games, board games, digital game prototypes. If you are a games designer, this is a perfect opportunity to play your game with the great gaming public and receive more feedback in a day than you usually would in a month.
If you would like to bring along a game design to be playtested please register your game beforehand using the website contact form.
Adult Tickets can be bought from the website for about £8 each (or they are £10 on the door).
Under 16's  tickets are free with an adult.

Transport: I wouldn't advise driving as parking in this area of London is very expensive, but the venue is a short walk from West Brompton rail & tube station, which is on the District & Overground lines.

If you have any questions please add them to the comments section below and I'll try and answer them. Alternatively, feel free to contact me directly using the contact form.

2 New Playtest UK Meetups

We have added two new playtesting groups to Meetup.com:

They meet every fortnight. The next meetup is on Tuesday 18th August at The Weston, Bath, BA1 3HE

The Norwich Playtest meetup group is run by Peter Chinkin (designer of the Sci-Fi board game, M101 and friendly guy.)

The venue will Athena Games, Norwich, NR2 1ER on the last Sunday of the month.

We now have regular meetups at 9 locations around the country: London, Cambridge, Newcastle, Brighton, Cardiff, Leeds, Enfield, Bath and Norwich where designers and playtesters can meet up to play games and give each other feedback.

We are hoping to add some more groups soon. So watch this space!

Playtest Zone @ UKGE2015 Debrief

A big thank you to everyone who was involved with the Playtest Zone at UK Games Expo 2015. We were booked out completely a week before the event.

Over the Saturday and Sunday, over 60 designers had their game prototypes playtested by hundreds of members of the gaming public.

Thanks to the Playtest UK volunteers: Brett, Matt, Dave, Dan, David & Miles for their help over the weekend.

All of the playtesters who sat down to play and filled in a feedback form were entered into a prize draw for a copy of Elysium, published by Space Cowboys / Asmodee and designed by Brett Gilbert and Matt Dunstan, who are both Playtest UK members.

The lucky winner was Joseph Norris, who brought his own design prototype to the Playtest Zone as well as playtesting several other designers' games.

Look forward to seeing you next year!

Playtest UK now has over 800 members!

Playtest UK now has over 800 members!

We have been steadily growing since 2010, when Playtest UK first became a public group. Starting from a handful of designers and playtesters, we now have regular groups in London, Cambridge, Newcastle, Cardiff, Brighton, Leeds and Enfield.

A big thank you to all of the regional organisers and members, who have helped Playtest UK to become an important part of the national games community in the UK.

The group also helps to run playtesting events at several of the major gaming conventions, such as the UK Games Expo, Dragonmeet & Geek.

Each year, more members use Playtest UK to help them win design competitions or get their games published. Most recently:

Elysium (Brett Gilbert & Matthew Dunstan/ Space Cowboys),
Pocket Imperium (David J. Mortimer/ LudiCreations)
Extra! Extra! (Andrew Bond / Mayfair Games)
and several more besides.

We've got big plans for the future of Playtest UK, with more playtesting available to members and new innovations to benefit the games design community.

Playtest UK @ UK Games Expo 2015

Calling all budding games designers and playtesters!

Playtest UK will be running a playtesting event
at the UK Games Expo 2015 29th - 31st May.

This year's event is being held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham. The Playtest zone is situated in the Monarch Suite.

The aim of the event is to bring designers and playtesters together to play games, encourage feedback and to help create better games.

You know that boardgame idea you've had knocking about for years that could be brilliant or just might not work? Create a prototype, bring it along and have fun figuring it out. Who knows, your idea might end up in a box on a games shop's shelf!

Do you like to play games? Do you know what makes a good game fun? Your opinions could help to develop the prototypes and perhaps lead to a playtesting credit in a published game.

We will provide feedback forms for designers and playtesters.

There will be a prize draw for each attendee that playtests a game and for designers who bring a game prototype with prizes from www.boardgameguru.co.uk

Feel free to contact me for more details via the contact tab at the top of the page, if you have any questions or are interested in getting involved with the playtesting.
